Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully the questions below leave you with the answers you need!

If you have any further questions, head on over to the contact page or email us at mainstaychristianacademy@gmail.com

Question 1.

What curriculum is used?

All curriculum is Bible based and academically rigorous. Singapore Math Dimensions is used across all grade levels. For Reading, Abeka and Bob Jones University Press are utilized. Science/Social Studies are a combination of teacher created units, Apologia, The Story of the World and Notgrass. Click below for a specific breakdown of grade levels.

Question 2.

How much time will be spent in at-home learning each day?

Amounts of time will vary based upon student ability levels and grade level. Average time spent will be around 3 hours per day but will vary on a day to day basis and student to student basis. The 3 hour estimate will decrease for younger grades (K, 1, 2). There will be occasional follow-up work after an in-school day to review skills covered in class.

Question 3.

What materials will my student need at home?

Students will need access to a quiet workspace at home.  Basic school materials will be needed (pencil, paper, crayons, markers).

Question 4.

We are new to homeschooling! What do I need to do?

Welcome! We are here to support you on this journey and walk you through the (fairly) easy process of enrolling as a homeschooler.

You will receive all paperwork and steps needed upon enrollment.

Question 5.

Where are you located? And when do you meet?

Mainstay is located at the Ministry Annex at

Westminster Presbyterian Church on Oregon Pike.

Students meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 until 12:00. Fifth grade has an extended day until 1:00. All K-4th students may participate in the Pack and Stay program for a minimal cost from 12:00 - 1:00 in order to extend their days.

If taking electives, students will have the opportunity to stay until 2:00.

Question 6.

What about 6th grade and beyond?

It is Mainstay's full intention to expand to a K-6 academic program by 2024. So if you are on the fence with that 5th grader, please know that Mainstay's plans are to develop a 6th grade program for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Both 5th and 6th grade will have extended days until 1:00 to reflect a heavier curriculum load.

Question 7.

What are the expectations for incoming Kindergarteners?

We know how hard it can be to decide when to start that Kindergarten year for your child, especially if they have a summer birthday. Mainstay recommends that all Kindergarteners be 5 prior to September 1st. Additionally, we have a created a competencies list to help guide your decisions. Please refer to the button below.
